Very nice piece. To my knowledge, the first person to even think to treat the Bible like an exact history by adding together all of the chronologies to arrive at the age of the Earth lived in the 1600s. This seems to suggest that the Biblical authors and early Christians did not think of the Bible as a work primarily of factual science, but of spiritual meaning.
It's a book of metaphors! Jordan Peterson said it should be read metaphorically. Many of the most interesting people I know (even the atheists) use the phrase Genesis. Genesis.house. Genesis Lung. Genesis is even critical for explaining Thiel's obsession with longevity.
Great, sourced argument and interesting read. Do you think Adam and Eve was allegorical or literal?
