What is a Blog?
I have never written a blog post before, but for my first one, I feel I should discuss what a blog is. According to Merriam Webster, a blog is “a website that contains online personal reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks, videos, and photographs provided by the writer.” while this does not state whether a blog can have multiple writers I will be like most people and ignore a potentially inconvenient truth.
I once thought that a blog implies a level of self-importance. Publishing a blog is saying that my thoughts matter enough for the world to be subjected to them. That isn’t to say that the world will read them; only 81% of American adults have heard of HuffPo, the largest (former) blog on earth. Moreover, I have no reason to believe this blog or my voice is interesting enough to demand the attention of anyone on earth who I don’t already know.
Today I know that I was wrong. A blog is not for the reader, it is for the writer. I do not assert that my voice matters to the world; I meekly assert that I am here. I assert that my voice matters to me. If the void is our only reader I will force the void to listen to us.
So with all that being said,
Hello Void, and welcome to Virginica
